Welcome to the Silent Auction!

[For mobile viewers: note that this post contains quick links to all photos]

Thanks for stopping by! To participate in the silent auction, simply place your bid in the "comments" links just below each post and I will write you in on the official bid sheet at the exhibition. Please include your name and email address in the bid.

Attend in Person

I hope you can attend the experience in person at 1100 Elder St, Houston, Texas any Sunday from 9am-2pm during December 2021, or at the Elder Street Art Market from 10am-4pm, Saturday, December 4, or at the "Turning Wine into Water" event Friday, December 11. However, if you are unable to attend, this will serve as the second-best experience for you.

About the Photo Experience

Doors : portals / passages / hinges / thresholds / keyholes / locks / closures / openings / new beginnings / transitions / safety / mystery / uncertainty

These are all metaphors that doors offer— metaphors our lives have in common.

These are common thresholds we all cross together.

I invite you on a journey to follow my lens through Asia, Africa, and Europe to consider— with the backdrop of a symbol we are all instinctively familiar with— how are our lives different, and how are they similar?

I hope you’ll find the common ground— but maybe not in such an obvious way.

Guidance: Walk, slowly, and consider each scene. What is it speaking to you? There is a hidden poem, a message, encoded in each photo, written just for you. Can you find it? Name the objects within, connect the dots, feel the colors, find your truth within… and maybe you’ll discover your poem.

Sit with your feelings in the chair of the final photo atop the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem, and write what you’ve felt. Share it with a friend. Discuss. Experience. Common ground.

About the Prints

The 24"x18" pieces seen at this exhibition are printed on archival quality diamond jet photolustre paper with a satin-matte finish. The prints are mounted onto a sturdy professional-grade Dibond metal sheet. A kiln-dried Doug Fir mechanism is anchored to the back of the bamboo to create a “floating off the wall” look.

Notes: Any amount over the cost of the print ($100) is tax-deductible; receipt will be issued to the winning bidder. Silent Auction closes at 2 pm Central US time, Sunday, December 26. Winner will be contacted by email; winning amount donation should be made no later than Dec. 31, 2021.

For your convenience, here are all the images of the exhibition, just click on the photo you're interested in to bid in the comments on that photo's page.
